Secure Logistics Sweden AB has received a grant of SEK 500 000 from the Forska & Väx programme at VINNOVA, the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems.
Professor Sten Wandel, Division of Technical Logistics, Lund University, who founded Secure Logistics Sweden AB year 2003, says that the focus of the company is to develop “Intelligent Tamper Indicating Seals " ensuring that no one can open a sealed package without alerting the rightful owner.
The system consists of a) TamperSeal™, an alarm module that includes a vacuum sensor, processor and a radio; b) a gas-tight plastic bag; and c) an external communication center. The item you wish to protect is co-located with a TamperSeal™ module in the gas-tight plastic bag which is vacuum sealed. When the package is opened the vacuum disappears and the radio in TamperSeal™ sends an alarm to the external communication center that in its turn enables an alarm siren, camera, or GPS and initiates other security actions.
The system's first application is the sealing of merchandizes in retail stores, in order to alarm shoplifting attempts, which often is done by opening the packaging and removing the ordinary alarm tag or the product itself and thereby enabling the thief to leave the store with the stolen merchandize without triggering the alarm in the security gate at the exit . Examples of future applications are, theft and intrusion alarm during transport and storage, and enabling the customer to verify that the product, as medicine or electronic component, is authentic and has not been exchanged, sabotaged or tampered with on its way from the factory. The system solution based on research at Lund University (VINNEX Centre NGIL) and Halmstad (CERES), are protected by a number of granted patents and it received the 1:e prize in the prestigious Swedish Embedded Award 2010.
Mats Johnsson, president, explains that the grant is intended for field tests in stores. The purpose of the study, carried out in collaboration with a large Swedish retail chain and a U.S. packaging company, is to verify the customer benefits, market potential and function of TamperSeal™ and to adapt the product to the environment in the stores so that a specification for mass production and global marketing can be established. The verification grant from VINNOVA is crucial for shaping the final product, which the company expects to launch in 2012, says Mats Johnson.
Secure Logistics Sweden AB is a subsidiary of TamperSeal AB, situated in Halmstad, Sweden.
